Work Showcase

Welcome to my work showcase! This tab includes different assignments, papers, projects & activities that have been part of my journey as an educational technology student. Two main themes that have presented themselves in my work over the past two years are student connections and equitable education. These are two areas of education I feel passionate about and drive my career and motivate me to be the best version of myself each day in my context. Working on these projects and creating these archives have allowed me to express myself as an educator in a new way, showing me why I love this career and why I continue to show up each year. Please enjoy my work and contact me with any thoughts.

Student Connections
The first theme of my work is student connection. Connecting and building relationships with students is a priority for me as an educator. I believe whole-heartedly that a teacher is the most successful when they build positive relationships with the students and build a classroom community that fosters growth and love.

Special Interest Group Project

For my Special Interest Group Project, we researched the importance of a classroom community in a digital age. We talked about what a classroom community is, why it is important and how to work towards creating a positive classroom community digitally and in person. A classroom community is an essential part of a successful classroom community. A positive classroom community allows for students to learn and grow in a space comfortable to them. This presentation represents the passion I feel about this and how research also shows the importance of a classroom community. This project demonstrates my ability to research, create and showcase an important philosophy I believe as a teacher.

My Work Showcase: Text

This project was so fun to create. It demonstrates my ability to integrate technology with common core standards and hands-on activity. As a fourth grade teacher, I often feel like there isn't enough time to play or have fun with supplies at school. This activity allows for student creativity and ownership. They have the trust of the teacher to create a presentation to show their understanding of multiplication as well as technology. This activity supports a positive classroom environment because it allows students to be creative, play and have fun while learning. I was particularly proud of the lesson plan and lesson slideshow I created for this. I felt confident in this project as a teacher and felt I would use this in the classroom. This builds on classroom relationships as students use their peers to create this project as well as build their mathematics and technology skills.

One of my biggest goals as an educator is to allow students to have choice and grow in their independence in my classroom. I believe that student ownership of learning should be a large area of growth over their time in my classroom. As a teacher, I will use this document in my classroom as a way to give students ownership of learning. They become comfortable and confident in the classroom when using the resources and following routines. This document helps them to understand their choices and have the freedom to choose what they would like to do, increasing the ownership and collaboration between teacher and student. This demonstrates my ability to create documents for students to use. I also was proud of this document and the technological elements that went into it.

I created an instagram post to represent the concept that there is no such thing as a stupid question. As an educator, I think we grow through questioning and inquiry. I believe that questioning and curiosity allow us to innovate and be lifelong kindergarteners. This connects to the concept of creating connections with students and encouraging them to be outgoing and discover the world around them. I believe that when you are curious about the world, you are able to learn, reflect and grow. This project represents my dedication to creating connections with students. I also enjoyed creating this Instagram style graphic, as something that could be shared with others.

Equitable Education
The second theme of my work is equitable education. Part of my philosophy as an educator is making education equitable for all students, regardless of their background or ability. Many of my work surrounds this concept.

Audio Essay

This audio essay discusses opinions on the future of education in a post-pandemic life. After the COVID-19 pandemic, our lives shifted and this greatly affected the education system and the way we work. COVID-19 greatly impacted the equitably and accessibility of education. I reflected on my experience as an educator and a human impacted by the COVID 19 pandemic, and thought about the impacts it had. I remember feeling so worried and helpless during this time. This artifact shows my genuine, raw emotion about the experience of teaching during this time as well as my hope for the future. This essay felt like releasing emotions and demonstrated my ability to record and represent my emotions as an educator and human.

The opportunity gap and the problems it creates in the education system are at the forefront of my mind as an educator. While creating this project, I was able to learn more about the opportunity gap and educate myself about the issues and ways we can begin to tackle these discrepancies. I collaborated on this project and worked with other educators who feel similarly. This project demonstrates my understanding of multi-modal projects as well as different tech integration related to the research.

Types of Learning

How do People Learn.png

This graphic was made to represent the different types of learning that happen with students. This relates to equitable education because it is important to think about the different ways that students learn to help them be successful. Kids learn in all different ways and to teach equitably, it is important to take the time to get to know the different learning styles of kids. Allowing different ways for students to practice learning and experiment with how they best learn is important as an educator. Providing multiple ways for student learning is important for equitable education.

This graphic was created as part of my Creativity with a Capital C Project. It highlighted how we can be more creative in math teaching. I outlined several objectives that all lead to the main goal of allowing student learners to be more creative with their math exploration. Math is often the least creative subject, but it is very important that students use creativity to help develop math reasoning and sense-making. This relates to equitable education because students learn in many ways and to make learning equitable, allowing creativity in a math workshop allows for students to explore, learn and grow using the tools that work for them.
