TE 801, Professional Roles & Teaching Practice I, Brittney Liggett, Fall 2019
This was the first graduate-level course I took after graduation, while student teaching. This course is designed for fifth-year students in student teaching. This course was the beginning step leading into lead teaching. My end goal was to create and teach several weeks of math instruction. I first observed lessons in my classroom, took note of strategies and practiced, then worked towards creating lessons of my own. I took over 6 weeks of teaching in a content area, created lesson plans with clear learning targets, success criteria, and planned content for students. This class gave me feedback and insight into strengthening and tweaking my lesson plans to support learning in my placement classroom. This class also provided me with the opportunity to work with a mentor who supported me in planning, executing and reflecting upon the lessons that I taught. introduced me to the expectations and responsibilities of graduate work.
TE 802, Reflection & Inquiry Teaching Practice I, Tracy Weippert, Fall 2019
This course is for fifth-year student teachers in the first semester to study qualitative and quantitative research methods. The end goal was to create and teach several weeks of reading and writing lesson plans. This course taught me ways to use research based practices in my lesson plans and provided strategies for English Language Arts instruction in the classroom. I worked on creating lesson plans for Guided Lead Teaching that were differentiated, aligned with standards and focused on ELA. I also learned how to pace lessons, how to prepare read-aloud questions and how to guide conversation about books. It also provided opportunities to reflect on learning and make changes for the future.
TE 803, Professional Roles & Teaching Practice II, Amy Munger, Spring 2020
This course is designed for fifth-year students in the second semester who are going into social studies lead teaching. I focused on taking over teaching responsibilities of relevant geography, economics, civics and history concepts. I focused on aligning lessons with the Michigan Social Studies Grade Level Content Expectations (GLCE) to create lessons rich with inquiry. I also focused on integrating social studies with other content areas. I also learned how to formally and informally assess student learning and how to use the data to inform instruction.
TE 804, Reflection & Inquiry Teaching Practice II, Andrea Varricchione, Spring 2020
This course is designed for fifth-year students in their second semester who are going into lead-teaching. Student teachers took over 6 weeks of teaching science, creating lesson plans with clear learning targets, success criteria, and planned content for students. This class provided me with the opportunity to have mentorship while planning my lessons, reflection after the lesson and modification for future lessons. This course prepared me to gradually take over science teaching. In addition, I looked at using student data to figure out what students need support with. I learned strategies for reaching all students of different needs.
CEP 810, Teaching for Understanding with Technology, Liz Bolt & Chris Sloan, Summer 2022
I took this class overseas in Galway, Ireland through the Master of Arts in Educational Technology (MAET) program. I developed a Personal Learning Portfolio that housed my projects, blog posts, research and allowed myself to create a professional space for myself to be used in my context as a teacher and beyond. This online presence offered a place for reflection as a student that showcased the hard work I produced throughout this class. In this class, I learned about new technological resources I could use in my life as a student as an educator. Also, I learned about and applied the technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK) framework.
CEP 811, Adapting Innovative Technologies to Education, Liz Bolt & Chris Sloan, Summer 2022
I took this class overseas in Galway, Ireland through the MAET program. I studied and researched technological resources that enhance K-12 education. I experimented with different resources that benefited student learning and developed a lesson plan that integrated a technological component. I completed a Maker Project which integrated technology with a content area in order to allow students to explore different technologies while working on standards.
CEP 812, Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice, Liz Bolt & Chris Sloan, Summer 2022
I took this class overseas in Galway, Ireland through the MAET program. This course focused on issues of practice in the field of education. I read research studies, articles & books that related to constraints in education. I worked with my peers to complete a Wicked Problems project that highlighted a specific problem in education using class articles, research and multimodal materials. My peers and I explored the problems of practice and potential researched-based solutions for these problems. I learned about and applied the TPACK framework to the assignments.
CEP 800, Psychology of Learning in School and Other Settings, Liz Bolt, Summer 2023
I took this course overseas in Galway Ireland through the MAET program. I learned about and explored learning theories and the different theorists who researched these ideas. My peers and I discussed the affordances of each learning theory and the challenges that they present in today’s day and age. I synthesized these theories and wrote a paper discussing how people learn, highlighting the different learning theories. I learned how to take a critical eye to these learning theories and identify how they are relevant in learning today.
CEP 818, Creativity in Teaching and Learning, Liz Bolt, Summer 2023
I took this course overseas in Galway Ireland through the MAET program. I studied creativity in education and how creativity is perceived in different contexts. I read articles and watched videos that enhanced creativity and inspiration in the educational context. I created projects that synthesized creativity in the context of education and looked at creativity in a new way. I completed a project called Creativity with a Capital C that allowed us to dig into creativity and merge our own thoughts with the thoughts of another individual.
CEP 822, Approaches to Educational Research, Liz Bolt, Summer 2023
I took this course overseas in Galway Ireland through the MAET program. I focused on educational research, how to find reliable sources and distinguish between helpful and incorrect research. I also learned about different research models and formats. In this class, I read Street Data by Shane Safir and Jamila Dugan, which highlighted collecting research at a more personal level within an educational setting that allows for more equitable data. I also learned how to interpret data and be informed and educated about research and data.
CEP 807, Capstone Seminar, Matthew Koehler, Summer 2023
This course was the final course taken in the MAET program. I added onto, revised and fine-tuned my digital portfolio to showcase the work I have done through the course of my MAET experience. I gave feedback to my peers and they gave feedback in return to help get new perspectives and ideas. I also added flair and professional aspects to complete my portfolio.
